Jack Balas, 1992; IT'S A LONG WAY BACK TO COLUMBUS; oil on canvas, 24" x 28"
Text:
As we dive into the ragged edge of clouds over the pass it begins to hail. The pounding is deafening, but between it and the static from lightening and the wipers there seem to be reports of a slide -- somewhere. Grazing a NO SHOULDER sign we dig out the map, but the half we need is gone, torn away along the fold. At the bottom I see someone has written "It's a long way back to Columbus."
