Jack Balas, 2024; RON WAS DAD'S
MECHANIC (#2688)
India ink on paper, 24x18 inches
Text:
Ron was Dad's mechanic, and we were always taking one of the cars
over to his garage on 47th for a tune-up or brake job or oil change,
the kind of shop with a rack and tool chests full of greasy wrenches
and screwdrivers and lug nuts, and a young guy in charge of flats.
I always checked out the calendars pinned up over the work bench,
nekkid babes with big boobs galore, pages all worn-edged, examined
and smudged, didn't matter what the current month was.
When I decided to make a calendar of my own I asked one of my
gym bro's to help, but word got out and now I'm backed up for
years and they all have to take a number.
